Watch Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episode 9

 Summary:

Yuji joins Level 1 jujutsu wizard Kento Nanami on a mission to investigate the mysterious deaths of three students at a movie theater. Meanwhile, the witness, a student named Junpei Yoshino, and the culprit, Mahito, decide to become friends and discuss the nature of the curses.

Plot:

At Satozakura High School, a young student named Junpei Yoshino is bullied by his peers. She apparently believes he was staring at their girlfriend's chest. Junpei wouldn't press a button that would make everyone he hates die, but he would press a button that would kill anyone who hated him without hesitation.
Sometime later, Junpei skips school to see the movie Human Earthworm 3 at the theater. Unfortunately for him, his school bullies also go to the movies. This reminds him of how he was bullied for looking at Tsubasa's chest. She only uses them for attention and they only listen because they want to connect with her. When he points this out, the thugs beat him more.

The bullies in the theater are eventually killed by the cursed ghost Mahito for making too much noise in the theater. Junpei goes to investigate their grotesque corpses and leaves the theater to track down Mahito. Junpei confronts him in the alley and believes that there is no way he could be human. When they catch up, Junpei asks Mahito if there would be any way he could do the things he does.

The authorities leave the scene to the jujutsu wizards. Yuji Itadori and 1st rank wizard Kento Nanami investigate the corpses. Nanami points out the remains of the cursed technique that warped the bodies. Yuji takes a while and learns to see them after focusing, but Nanami doesn't praise him for it. The student suggests they all go out, but Nanami says a little effort will do, so Yuji feels they're getting along.

Satoru entrusted Yuji's training for this mission to his dear friend Nanami, a former wizard for hire. Nanami explained that he believed wizards were terrible, but working for companies was just as bad. He trusts Satoru but does not respect him because he constantly breaks the rules and regulations. Also, Nanami doesn't consider Yuji to be a full-fledged wizard yet.

In the present, Yuji and Nanami continue to track the remains on the roof of the building. Once outside in the rain, they are greeted by what appears to be a curse. Another one appears, so Nanami suggests they each take one. Yuji doesn't want Nanami to underestimate him, but Nanami feels that he is a child who still needs guidance and protection. Life or death situations do not make you an adult in Nanami's eyes. It is the small losses that accumulate throughout life that make people grow into adults.

As Nanami grapples with her opponent, she reveals out loud how his cursed technique works. Yuji tries to listen to Nanami and fight at the same time. Nanami teaches Yuji that showing his hand has an advantage in battle. It is a pact that increases the effectiveness of one's abilities in battle. Nanami demonstrates this by taking out the attacking creature with a single slash of its sword. This leaves only Yuji to deal with his opponent as he can concentrate now that Nanami has finished.

Yuji shows off the fruits of his training as he can effectively channel cursed energy into his fists. During said training, Gojo taught Yuji that his cursed energy has a time delay, allowing him to change one punch into two impacts. Yuji knocks his opponent down with this attack: Divergent Fist! Nanami is amazed by the technique and admits that he sees what Gojo sees in Yuji.

Nanami is about to finish them off, but realizes that these creatures are not curses. He brings them to Shoko Ieiri, who confirms that they are former humans who were mutated by the cursed technique, just like the victims in the theater. Shoko assures Yuji that they are not alive and he need not feel guilty for ending their existence. Yuji is enraged that so many people have lost their lives, and Nanami is surprised by his sincere feelings. Nanami decides to cheer him up in her own way. He reveals that their target manipulated the remains to lead them into a trap, so they will have to go to great lengths to find the curse.

Meanwhile, Mahito takes Junpei to his hideout and teaches him how curses manifest from people's collective fears. They fear not only yokai legends, but also natural disasters. Mahito was born out of the hatred humanity has for each other. The next day, Nanami explains that he managed to track down their targets' hideout. However, he wants Yuji to follow Junpei, the only witness to the crime. Ijichi joins him as Nanami continues to investigate the hideout. Yuji and Ijichi find Junpei soon after and follow him with a small curse trapped in a box wrapped in talismans.

Gojo jokingly asks Nanami out on a date, which the 1st level wizard stoically declines. The special class wizard tries to say that it was something important, but to no avail. After several failed attempts, Gojo successfully gets Nanami to read a letter in which he drew a simplistic penis, much to the exasperation of the former salaryman.
